Saeco Incanto Classic Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Saeco Incanto Classic Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I read reviews of multiple automatic expresso machines (deLonghi, Saeco, Gaggia, etc) and was concerned that most brands tend to have some negative reviews of their selected expresso machine breaking down after some time. Since there was no single review that reports on the reliability of these machines, I decided to take my chance with this expresso machine.

The manual of this expresso maker lacks sufficient instructions. Mine came with the new series Intenza water filter. The instruction, with the new water filter, instructs that the existing small white filter needs to be removed and does not provide instructions on its removal. It is only upon calling Saeco customer service that I understood how the small white filter can be removed. And when necessary, I sometimes called Seattle Coffee Gear, whom I originally bought mine from, who has excellent product expertise and customer service.

Most automatic expresso machines come with plastic parts from in to out. So this machine stands out in that the main body is still made from steel.

This product comes with an inbuilt grinder, with small to coarse grinder settings, and thus making it super-handy (fully automatic!).

I used this machine to brew some Blue Mountain coffee. It came out so rich in aroma and taste. Previously I was using some traditional filter to brew this coffee and was not able to discern the aroma and taste of this Blue Mountain coffee.

And the frother is able to froth the milk with a consistent quality as well. And it comes with the option of hot water as well.

I bought this during Jan 2010, so I can't comment on the reliability as yet. So far I cleaned this up after each use. In case, this machine starts breaking down, I will update my review so that future buyers can be fore-warned.

1.5 mths later:
Upon power on, the 2 top & 1 bottom leftmost LEDs started flashing. I referred to the manual and it indicated loading and to wait. After waiting 10 mins and resetting the machine, I still observed the same phenomenon. After some tests, I found that it needed priming. So far this has happened twice in the last 2 weeks and priming solves the problem. Saeco USA needs to improve on their manual instructions !!!

1.5 yrs later:
Just for clarification, I tend not to use this coffee maker daily, but more on weekend Sat and Sun, when I would brew 3-6 cups. I have come to appreciate this coffee machine. Even with regular coffee beans, you can smell the aroma of the fresh brew. This shows the benefit of the features, high pressure brew maker. Till today, it is still functioning.

Saeco 30013 Aroma Traditional Espresso Machine, Stainless Steel Review

Saeco 30013 Aroma Traditional Espresso Machine, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

It aint fancy, it just works. Seriously, no big bells & whistles, just great, FAST espresso and steamed milk. The cleanup is easy, especially since the little do-hickey on the frother comes off; the drip tray comes out, etc. It's easy to use, though there is a slight learning curve... there is a specific sequence of switch flipping and dial turning you have to get down. That's about the only negative. This unit could be improved by adding more switches and having each do one thing only. On the positive side, this sucker heats up super fast and makes consistent espresso. It's smaller than most machines, at just a little stockier than your average drip coffee pot. The only other negative would be the positioning of the frothing wand, but I've found that EVERY espresso machine has this problem - they just don't swing out far enough and are too long..or something. You nearly have to tip a cup of milk parallel to the counter to get it under the steam spout. Why has no manufacturer fixed this yet?? Alas, great little machine, just right for the price, great coffee, good & fast.

Saeco S-PR-SG Primea Ring Super-Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Saeco S-PR-SG Primea Ring Super-Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

Yes, this machine is very expensive. I was lucky enough to get it at a very very good price when amazon temporarily reduced the price, otherwise no way I would spend so much on something like this....

Anyway, this thing is quite simply awesome. My wife and I are now addicted to coffee :-) Latte machiatos and cappuccinos in the morning, espresso in the evening, hot milk for our daughter too!

The machine is totally automated, it will tell you when to clean it, when to add stuff, it will keep your cups warm, and did I mention it makes wonderful coffee? You can personalize how you want each of the different coffee drinks to come out, stronger, hotter, more robust. You can double the quantity of coffee coming out. It will accommodate various cup sizes, from espresso cups to large coffee cups. Did I mention it makes wonderful espresso/coffee :-)

Now the negatives: the machine is rather large so make sure you have the space for it, figure about a 1'X1' footprint of counter space, but it looks very modern and high tech. You do have to keep it clean, certain things have to be done about 15 minutes after your first cup (if you use the cappuccitore to make milk based drinks) but that is understandable as you want to make sure the milk doesn't start clogging everything. The water reservoir is not very large (you can get about 6 cups of coffee out of it) considering the size of the machine. You do have to learn to navigate the touch sensitive ring to get to what you want, I can imagine some people finding it frustrating. The machine does seem to have a lot of moving internal parts, when you use it you hear all kinds of mechanical noises in there, it makes you wonder how long that internal mostly plastic apparatus, called the Brew Group, will last; it's the heart of the machine. I am now drinking more coffee than ever!!!

All in all this thing is awesome, I hope it lasts a long time!

I received my coffee maker and loved it for almost a year, until it stopped dripping the coffee. I had followed all the directions for cleaning and servicing the machine. I called the Arabee company from whom I purchased it.

They promptly made arrangement for me to get it back to them, as it was still under warranty. They have now had it for over 4 months and I can't get a proper response from them. I have been told that it took 6 weeks in the queue to get to service, then they needed a part, which may or may not have had to come from Italy. Now they won't even return calls or answer when I call. The next step, I guess is a legal one to get a new coffee maker or some form of recovery.

Loved the coffee maker while I had it.

Saeco Xelsis Digital ID Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Saeco Xelsis Digital ID Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I bought the Gaggia Accademia from Amazon a little over a month ago, the Gaggia is similar to the Xelsis in both price and features (although the Accademia has a few less features than the Xelsis). Unfortunately the Gaggia went bad in almost exactly 30 days after I purchased it, thermostat stopped working which rendered the machine useless.
Returned it and got the Xelsis instead and from what I have experienced so far this Xelsis is much better than the Accademia machine. They are both very similarly priced, however the Xelsis has much more adjustability/personalization than the Gaggia did and though this is somewhat subjective I also think the Xelsis is a better looking machine, I should have just gotten this machine from the very beginning.

If you are X shopping these two models I recommend you get the Xelsis, much better value for the money. The only thing that concerns me about the Xelsis are the electronic touch controls which I am worried that eventually (as with anything electronic) this touch panel will fail, the Gaggia had push buttons which gave me the impression of it lasting longer, I guess time will tell.
The digital ID system although somewhat gimmicky works well and recognizes everyone's fingerprint in my household, it takes about 4 seconds for it to switch users and you have your own personalized settings once you do so, again, somewhat gimmicky but it works and being that Amazon (at the time I purchased it) had a better price on the digital ID one that the normal Xelsis, well, it was a no brainer for me as you are getting a more expensive machine for less.

The coffee/espresso coming out of this machine is fantastic, having had the Gaggia Accademia my opinion is that the Xelsis actually makes better tasting espresso/coffee.

I can't comment on the durability of this machine being that I got it less than a week ago, but from a usability and quality perspective the machine seems to be top notch. IMHO the Xelsis is without a doubt as good as it gets as far as super automatics go.

Saeco Focus Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Saeco Focus Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

There are those purists who swear that a super automatic can't produce the same results as a manual machine or even a semi-automatic and then there are those who just enjoy tinkering around with their espresso machines. This might not be the best choice for those people but if you are pressed for time or just want a decent cup of espresso or a quick latte or cappuccino without all the fiddling, the Saeco Syntia Focus more than fills the bill. I've owned a semi-automatic for years and while I can usually produce a decent shot with it, I've never truly become proficient; they can be finicky little devils. The coffee I've gotten from the Saeco is rich in crema and aroma and is at least as good, if not better. It's also a good deal faster with much less work.

The stainless steel Rapid Steam (single) boiler heats up quickly so there's minimal waiting and a very short interval between steaming milk and making coffee. Although the machine is a super-auto, there are some choices that are programmable so you can customize your cup. You can adjust the settings on the grinder if you prefer the grind to be coarser or finer and you can bypass the grinder entirely and use pre-ground coffee if you wish. You can select the strength of your brew from mild to medium to strong. It also allows you to adjust the amount of brewed coffee produced when you press the espresso or the long coffee buttons.

The Focus comes equipped with a Pannarello wand for frothing the milk for cappuccinos. Although some people don't care for them, the Pannarello is reputed to be more user-friendly than a conventional steam wand. Just make sure to run water through it after each use and regularly remove the tip and rinse it under running water. I drink more espressos than anything else but I've been experimenting with the Pannarello and find it easy to use. If you've never used one, with just a little practice you'll be able to produce an acceptable microfoam without spraying milk all over your kitchen.

The Syntia Focus is relatively compact, so it doesn't take up too much valuable counter space. The actual measurements are 10"W x 16.5"D x 12.5"H although they are slightly different in the product description. Maintenance is simple and straightforward. Pretty much everything that you need to access on a regular basis--the water reservoir, the coffee grounds drawer, the bean hopper and the brew group are positioned at or toward the front so the machine doesn't need to be moved for cleaning or replenishing. Saeco recommends that you remove and clean the brew group at least once a week and descale the machine every 3 months. None of this is particularly onerous and is a small price to pay in order to keep it functioning in good condition.

I've really come to appreciate the speed and ease of this small machine and to relish the delicious coffee that it produces on demand.

Fine machine. Brews an excellent shot with good head. Heats up quickly and the durability has been excellent. Steams well but it definitely takes longer than I'm used to. I have this one at work but the 30013 at home which I think is an even better model. Brews and steams much quicker and while the case is the same the push buttons on this one feel less solid than the flip switches on the 30013.

This is a great coffee machine provided you can comprehend the instructions, which is why it did not get 5 stars.
The user instructions are, by the 800 help line guy I had to call to get mine going's own description, difficult to follow.

We just ran enough through it to get the automated message to run the de-calcification process on it. Again, the instruction manual is lacking. You must have patience.

Beyond that it is a great product and I do recommend it.

Whole bean grind or pre-ground coffee is unparalleled.

Rich flavor of fresh ground is unbeatable.

Saeco Syntia Stainless Steel Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Saeco Syntia Stainless Steel Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

This is the first espresso machine I have owned, so I won't be comparing it to other machines. I've had the machine for about 5-6 months now, using it once or twice nearly every day with no problems.

I have been drinking espresso for a long time and I appreciate a well-balanced, properly extracted, silky crema and rich cup of gold. This machine is quick and consistent with every cup. With the touch of a button, you can go from bean to drinking within seconds. I prefer heavy thick espresso, so I keep it at it's finest setting for a powerful cup. There are two methods to set the potency: one to adjust the coarseness of the grind and one to adjust how much to brew in each cup. You can use pre-ground as well, however, I have not tried it.

The steamer works fantastically and takes mere seconds to warm up. The design makes a great foam on top for a perfect cappuccino or latte.

It's easy to keep clean and it is very easy to set up right out of the box. The brushed finish leaves no fingerprints and the steam wand wipes clean with a damp rag very easily.

The machine is built sturdy and is very low profile, which is great for smaller kitchens lacking counter-space. You can adjust the height of the spout for different sized cups. The full operation (grinding, tamping, brewing, and disposing) is not loud at all compared to some machines I have heard.

Since the machine is relatively small in size, it does not hold a massive quantity of beans, the water tank does have to be filled often (but it is very easy to fill), and the waste bucket needs to be emptied after 4-5 uses (easy to dump).

I have nothing bad to say about the design, operation, interfacing, or maintenance of this machine. I highly recommend it to anyone and wouldn't return it for anything. It truly is the best part of waking up!

--Salud!
