Overall, this was an amazing buy, the steam wand does drip slightly and the descaling program takes a long while when it needs it but its an excellent coffee and all round drinks machine!

Product Description

With its elegant looks and enviable feature list, the Gaggia Titanium outclasses just about every other super automatic available. A sleek stainless steel front panel and steel outer shell house the Titanium's pride and joy - a stainless steel lined brewing boiler and additional steaming boiler. These boilers create what we call Rapid Steam and eliminate the wait time between brewing and steaming or frothing milk. Add this up with the Titanium's programmable brewing buttons, the option of using either the stainless steel Gaggia Turbo Frother or the included auto-frother, and an electric blue LCD display, and you have one machine that refuses to be outperformed!

Gaggia MDF Coffee Grinder with Doser Review

Gaggia MDF Coffee Grinder with Doser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

For $200 this coffee grinder sucks. It's missing nice/easy to add features, like rubber stoppers on the bottom!! Both hands are busy, one holding the espresso handle and one operating the doser and the machine slides all over the counter. Also the doser never worked on my machine. It never dispensed the correct amount of coffee...and the coffee that came out of the dispenser went everywhere. Plus the dispenser handle was less than smooth to pull. I hate this machine.

Gaggia 11300 Baby D Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver Review

Gaggia 11300 Baby D Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver
Average Reviews:

This machine could not be better. It's a Porche. Clean, efficient, easy to use and maintain, and makes great espresso. I had a Krupps and a Seco before and this machine makes those seem like toys. I'd recomend this without reservation. My only complaint is the size of the water tank (too small requiring frequent refilling, though that is very easy to do).

Product Description

Gaggia has revolutionized a classic machine for 2006. The Baby D retains the commercial quality parts you have come to expect and adds 2 programmable dosing brew buttons, which provides unparalleled flexibility and convenience when brewing espresso. Programming is easy with a simple "press and hold" method. The Baby D distinguishes itself by sporting a 3 way solenoid valve that gives the in house Barista a nice, dry espresso puck after brewing - meaning less mess and a quicker, easy clean up. To brew a commercial quality espresso you need a portafilter that is of commercial size, design and weight. The Baby D comes with a 58mm, 16 oz chrome plated brass portafilter, which provides excellent heat retention (just like the coffee shops use) and is pod capable (ESE coffee pod ready). Gaggia's Baby D features a brew group forged to commercial standards. The solid marine brass core is chrome-plated, giving maximum heat retention and durability where it matters the most. Gaggia's 55 watt water pump is one of the strongest in the industry. The Baby D has a 48 oz reservoir and recently improved on the turbo frother, producing a large amount of creamy froth without the hassle of "working the milk". The Baby D also comes with; Single/POD & double stainless steel filter baskets, coffee tamper and 7 gram coffee scoop. This is one of Gaggia's premier semi-automatics.

Gaggia Syncrony Compact Digital Super Auto Espresso Machine Review

Gaggia Syncrony Compact Digital Super Auto Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I received this espresso machine for Christmas 2007, and have been extremely pleased with its performance. I've had absolutely no problems....once I learned how to use the machine properly. Note, there are a few websites that offer video tutorials on how to use this machine that are very useful. Note, I use this machine every single day...typically going through 14 shots of espresso (at least) since there are several coffee drinker in our home. We have almost entirely abandoned our previous coffee maker...not because we didn't like it, but because this machine is so wonderful. Here are a few insights:

1. This machine typically makes 12-14 individually ground espresso shots before you will need to empty the hopper. It's pretty easy and no big deal to do this. The grinder works flawlessly, and the hopper typically holds about a 1/2 to 2/3 pound of beans.
2. I have tried to use ground coffee with this machine, which doesn't taste anywhere as good as the beans. When I first got the machine, I tried using some "fine ground" espresso in the little door on top to make a cup of coffee. No espresso would come out the machine....it took a long time to figure out that it was clogging up the filter. I used slightly coarser ground beans with excellent results.
3. There are two buttons for making espresso - I refer to them as the regular and large size buttons. You can adjust how much water each button will automatically dispense very easily.
4. The steam attachment on the side of the machine works very well for both steam and dispensing hot water.
5. There is an automatic decalcification light that comes on to let you know to run the appropriate cleanser through the machine. I've figured out this light turns on based upon the number of cycles of espresso that are made versus actual need. No big deal....it's a good reminder light for maintance.
6. The water tank is pretty straight forward and lifts off for filling, although I prefer to lift the top off of it and refilling via a large glass/pitcher.
7. This machine is mostly made of plastic, but it's very solid and well made. The tray beneath the espresso dispenser is made of metal, along with the steamer nozzel.
8. I highly recommend watching one of the instructional videos for this machine. It does require learning very basic steps, which are explained well with the included instructions (they are outright cryptic). This is a very easy machine to use once you understand the controls.
9. If I could add a feature it would be a counter mechanism - because some days I lose track of my caffeine intake and I'm simply curious as to how many shots we've really made in total.

I've made at least 2000 espresso shots with this great machine. Overall, myself, my family, and my friends have all enjoyed it...and everyone wants one. I've converted many diehard regular coffee drinkers to more flavorful espresso. You decide....this machine isn't cheap. But some luxuries are wonderful if you can afford it.

Gaggia Classic Espresso Machine with Instructional CD Review

Gaggia Classic Espresso Machine with Instructional CD

I've had this machine now for two years. I did a lot of research before purchasing this particular machine and I could not be happier with it. I start my day with a latte (2 shots) and have another before lunch (yes I'm a caffeine junkie). This machine is well worth the expense and based on Starbucks prices will pay for itself in under a year. I've also tried a lot of espresso coffees and I've found "Espresso Allegro" from www.specialtyjava.com to be the best. I have a Capresso INFINITY Conical Burr Coffee Grinder which makes a good espresso grind. Now and all is well in coffee land.

Gaggia 8002 MDF Burr Grinder with Doser, Black Review

Gaggia 8002 MDF Burr Grinder with Doser, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

The Gaggia MDF fills a small, yet demanding space between the cheap and typically terrible $30-$100 burr grinders and the $500 Mazzer Mini. It's only real competition is the Rancilio Rocky and the Innova (if you can find one).

The main complaint about the MDF is that it is not continuously adjustable, which is true, however I have been able to position mine easily in the middle of two settings. This effectivly doubles the available settings and--with variations in tamp pressure--allows me to get really decent shots fairly consistantly.

I use this machine with my vintage swiss Elespresso machine (a Solis SL70 in disguise) and am consistantly pleased. It compares favorably with a Mazzer Mini on most days (I've got one of those too--as well as a La San Marco/Rossi) and for the price is a great buy. If you see a Rocky for the same price, that might be a better choice because of the larger number of settings, but only just.

For those not wanting to drop at least $300 on a grinder, this is a great choice. It fixes all the major faults of the Solis at only a few dollars more and is solidly made, reasonably consistant, and compact enough to sit next to most home machines on the market. Now if only it were a bit easier to clean...

Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine Review

Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I just purchased this machine from Amazon and have been incredibly impressed with the build quality, features, and quality of the coffee produced. You can't beat this machine in terms of the product design, multitudes of modes of operation, and elimination of cleaning chores often associated with fully automatic home machines.

Unboxing the product is your first clue to the level of detail the manufacturer paid to the product experience. As is custom with Gaggia products, this machine was designed and built at the Milan factory -- something that will not escape you from the early moments of opening the box. Once the shipping box is opened, you simply remove the outer box to reveal the inside box, which has two convenient long handles to make it easy for you to lift the machine out of the shipping box. Inside, the sealed inner box contains your unit, with prominent serial number markings on the inner box and the "Made in Milan, Italy" (naturally in Italian) stamped proudly.

You'll be surprised with the highly durable construction, in particular, the stainless steel finish which seems to be impervious to finger prints in my usage so far -- and the high quality hinges that reveal the inner workings of the machine: the brew group, drip tray, and grounds drawer. One unique feature of this machine is that the brew group is fully removable for easy maintenance and cleaning. Given that o-rings over time will break down and are a common service issue on home machines from other manufacturers, the ability to self maintain in your kitchen without needing to pull the machine out or remove it to another location is a plus. Maintenance kits for the o-rings can be found for as little as $9.99.

The manuals are well written and the menu system is intuitive and easy to use. Brew strength can be varied with a simple dial on the front of the machine, and individual settings for each beverage, including coffee quantity, volume, temperature, and milk froth settings, if applicable, can be specified. There's also a coffee chute for pre-ground coffee should you chose to use some for a particular beverage instead of the beans. This gets to the main strength of this machine: it's completely configurable. Many people gravitate to manual machines due to the lack of control over the Espresso pull; this machine not only lets you program it, you can change it easily before every cup without needing to descend into tons of on-screen menus.

The milk carafe is a fabulous feature -- and it's zero mess. You simply pop it in, move the arm over the cup, and select the beverage you want. When you're done making milk beverages, you return the arm to the middle position which activates a steam rinse feature that flushes the milk circuit with steam for cleanliness. Simply remove the carafe to the fridge for safe keeping until your next cleaning!

Another feature of the adjustable brew center is that it can be removed for exceptionally tall cups. Nice for those tall cups in the morning on the way to work!

Since energy consumption is on everybody's mind these days, the unit features a double boiler (one for the brew group, and one for the milk circuit.) There's an optional ECO mode which will automatically power down the milk circuit when not in use -- simply call-up the machine's settings to activate the feature. Furthermore, the unit features an adjustable auto-standby feature which will put the unit into standby mode drawing less than a watt of power.

I couldn't be happier with my unit. The coffee taste, strength, and temperature are perfect. The adjustments are virtually unlimited and you can achieve precisely the results you want consistently. A great appliance for any coffee lover's kitchen!

Gaggia 14101 Classic Espresso Machine, Brushed Stainless Steel Review

Gaggia 14101 Classic Espresso Machine, Brushed Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I've used this machine extensively for the last 12 months. In every aspect, I learned a lot about making that still elusive perfect espresso: the bean, the grinding, the water, the temperature, the cleaning, the back flushing, the descaling, you name it. The purchase of this machine started a very rewarding journey into the unknown. From thermodynamics through agricultural techniques, I've read a lot. But only recently I started a new stream of Googling when I researched how to make a more thorough maintenance of the machine. I'm a chemical engineer, so by training, I know that machines need more than cosmetic cleaning to keep working.

And here is when the boiler issue comes along. Among the key components in any espresso machine, the boiler has obviously a very high importance. It's here where a truly exceptional machine shows it's quality. From the steam "disponsable" ones using stainless steel to the almost coffee bar quality solid brass boiler machines, the difference is astounding in terms of temperature stability and durability. There are cheaper machines that use aluminum instead of brass in the boiler. Like the Gaggia Classic. And that I didn't know when I bought it. Aluminum you see, corrodes VERY fast. Even if it creates a self protecting layer of aluminum oxide when exposed to the elements, it DOES corrode and it DOES end it's life in much faster way than a brass boiler. Why? simply because brass doesn't corrode as fast, and if you need to descale or clean a brass boiler, you can be much more aggressive in what you use to do that cleaning.

So, my boiler is now showing significant amounts of corrosion. I used bottled water and cleaned the machine every week extensively, used recommended anti-scaling and detergent agents and followed every rule. But next year this machine is ready for a full boiler replacement. Unacceptable in my mind. Go for the Rancilio Silvia (brass boiler), because that's the one I'm buying soon. It's well worth the extra money.
