Michael Graves Design® Automatic Drip Coffeemaker Review

Michael Graves Design® Automatic Drip Coffeemaker

Wow, I have nothing but good things to say about this coffeemaker. It does not drip from the spout when pouring, the resevoir is removable, and the coffee filter basket is easy to get to. If there is anything bad is that the filter basket holder itself is not removable, so it can only be cleaned by wiping it out. This makes really good coffee, and its very fast too. If you use the flavor selector button, this does slow the coffee brewing time somewhat, but who cares? The benefits of this coffeemaker far outweigh any negative ones. I also like the bright blue clock on the machine, the sleek look and the easy clean black color. I love it! The price can't be beat either!!! I wish I could have one in red to match my rooster kitchen!
UPDATE: After buying this coffee maker again in June 2009, I have to say I quite disappointed with it. My first one last two years, and I only bought a new because of the burned up warming plate. However, my second one has a crusty, burned up warm plate already, and I mean as of last Nov. not today. I have started using my old Hamilton Beach coffee maker, but it takes forever to brew. What iss the deal with Michael Graves warming plate always doing this? Does anyone else have this problem with this coffeemaker?

Nespresso Essenza Automatic Coffeemaker Review

I admit, I resisted you. I was in a long-standing relationship with my Estro Profi. We were compatible. We had been together for years. The espresso was still good. I thought I had it all. Why would I even consider a dalliance with a brainless little pod-based machine when I had a solid relationship with a respectable, dependable provider?

But after I saw you... I began to waver. Your body was slimmer, sleeker... I would catch myself comparing your lines to the fuller, heavier figure of the Profi.. You had style, tempting me with the racy red of your base; far more daring than the simple black I saw every day at home. I traced your curvy silhouette with my eyes, a form my old machine could never hope to attain. I imagined how you would look on my countertop, taking up only a quarter of the footprint of the Profi's "Husky" frame and requiring no extra accessories beyond your capsule tray.

Over time, I began to realize what a high-maintenance relationship I had with the Profi. Warm up the heater. Prime the pump - steam. Prime the pump - brew head. Grind the coffee. Dose the coffee. Tamp carefully to perfect pressure. Load the portafilter. Babysit the brew, and stop at the right moment. I was doing all the work while the Profi sat there smugly and thrived on the attention, dispensing the espresso that was the cornerstone of our relationship slowly... one might say, almost grudgingly.

And let's not get into how I had to practically take it apart to fill the reservoir in the first place.

Why did I do it for so long? When did I become the enabler?

But you, Nespresso Essenza Automatic Coffeemaker - Glam Red (D100)... You know what I want, and you never hesitate to fulfill even my most immediate need. I turn on your heater, and by the time I've filled your easily-accessed reservoir from the Brita and taken my cup from the cabinet, you're more than ready for me. One press of a button to prime the pump and heat the cup, pop in the pod, and another press of a button... and rich, liquid satisfaction pours. 30 seconds, that's all you need. After that, I can have what I want, as much as I want, and as slowly as I want to enjoy it.

And the espresso... Oh, Nespresso Essenza Automatic Coffeemaker - Glam Red (D100), how can I describe the richness, the variety, the sheer perfection of your capsules? How can mere words express the pleasure of watching your smooth, silky crema settle like a perfectly drawn glass of Guinness? No, Nespresso Essenza Automatic Coffeemaker - Glam Red (D100) - these are things best kept secret, enjoyed only between the two of us. Suffice it to say... I thought the espresso was good in my previous relationship, but only because it was better than Starbucks. I had no idea it could be like this.

Yes, Nespresso Essenza Automatic Coffeemaker - Glam Red (D100); I'm sure you know by now, I'm in love with you. I don't want to live without you there, on my counter every morning as I arrive bleary-eyed and disheveled for my first high-powered Ristretto shot of the day. I never want to spend another evening without you there, providing my after-dinner Decaffeinato Intenso demitasse.

I may have to get another Nespresso for the office... But don't worry, Nespresso Essenza Automatic Coffeemaker - Glam Red (D100). You'll always be the one I come home to.

I've owned a Starbucks Barrista Machine for many years and it still works great, but I've gone through more grinders. I hadn't planned on replacing my coffee maker but a really good burr grinder isn't cheap. I saw this machine and saw the reviews and realized it wasn't that much more than a good grinder. I realized this would reduce the unsightly mess I have on my counter from two appliances and considering my usually degree of early morning incoherence before coffee (a cross between Frankenstein and name your least favorite member of Congress) - anything that makes 6 am simpler is a good thing.

Setting up this machine was a breeze. I unpacked it, installed the charcoal filter and ran a cold pot of plain water through. I filled it up with beans and fresh water and let it go for the next morning. I won't say I looked forward to 6 am. I'm not that crazy, but this morning I was greeted by an excellent pot of coffee. It was the proper temperature. The coffee was shiny, a really polished look to the finish. There was no bitterness at all and it was just so rich and smooth. This was exactly the experience I was hoping for.

Clean up was a snap. I pressed the button on the side and the gold tone filter swings out in the hod for simple clean up. The thermal carafe lid easily unscrews for cleaning.

The amount of noise from the grinding isn't bad, it's certainly less than my Krups burr grinder and what a relief not to have a mess everywhere.

Product Description

Equipped with a built-in conical burr grinder, this coffeemaker automatically grinds and brews up to 10 cups of exceptionally flavorful coffee. The unit's slow burr grinding produces minimal heat, which helps preserve coffee's full aroma and flavor, while its solid-steel conical burrs offer five grind settings from coarse to fine for adjusting the coffee strength. A user-friendly push-button control panel with an easy-to-read illuminated LCD display ensures simple operation and programming. Choose from five brew amounts (2 to 10 cups) and select the coffee strength: mild, medium, or strong--or set the clock and timer for automatic brewing at a later time. The coffeemaker provides two modes of operation for brewing coffee with or without the grinder. Grind/Brew mode grinds a programmed amount of whole beans directly into the gold-tone filter, then automatically starts the brewing process. Brew mode allows for adding ground coffee without the use of the grinder--simply push the filter-release button to open the swing-out filter holder. Freshly brewed coffee dispenses into the included 10-cup stainless-steel thermal carafe, which comes with a stay-cool handle and non-drip spout. For sneaking a quick cup midbrew, just remove the carafe from the machine to pause the flow of coffee, then return it to continue brewing. Other highlights include a 200 degree F brew temperature, a 6-ounce capacity bean container, a see-through window for checking to make sure ground coffee flows smoothly into the filter holder, a detachable see-through cover for cleaning the grinder channel, a charcoal water filter that removes up to 82-percent of chlorine and other impurities from tap water, and two-hour automatic shut-off for safety and peace of mind.

Capresso 441.05 MT-500 Plus 10-cup Coffeemaker with Metallic Alloy Body and Stainless Thermal Carafe Review

IT'S NOW MAY 2011...... UPDATE
We've used this coffee maker for quite a while now. I wished I had purchased the Technivorm. Why? Making small batches of coffee, the temperature of the carafe coffee is never hot enough. We've used room temp water, pre-rinsed the thermal carafe with hot water, and even brewed larger volumes, which Capresso recommends for highest temperature performance. But in the final analysis, this machine just doesn't live up to the claims of brewing near 200 degrees F. And frankly, I can't stand the engineering on the "screw tight and screw open carafe lid." It's just not user friendly, in my opinion. We're giving the machine to our youngest daughter and her husband. We're buying a Zojirushi at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $72 after their 20% discount and another $5 promo. BTW, in the mornings we usually brew our Brasilian coffee "Tropeiro Style", which is similar to Turkish coffee preparation. The final product is just below boiling, and stays very hot in the thermos/carafe for hours. This is very common in Brasil, and it works! No fancy machines. The coffee maker for us is usful when we're serving coffee for more than four people.

-------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW -----------------------------------------------------

I'm a member of SCAA, (Specialty Coffee Assoc. of Amer.), and know that properly brewed coffee requires "hot water." In fact, brew temp's need to be around 200 degrees F. This machine, and the Technivorm unit from Boyd Coffee are the only two consumer machines I'm aware of that do.

My ONLY ISSUE with Capresso is the insulated thermos/carafe. It has the most unfriendly screw on cap. And outside of a small raised dot, which is black and matches the rest of the cap....thus making it near invisible, you'll play heck having anyone other than you figure out how to pour the hot coffee first time out!

I can say that it is a quality brewing device, does everything I expected, and meets my critical brewing demands.

Was it worth paying $200 for this brewer when I could have purchased a "look-a-like" for under $100? For me, yes. Both we and our friends agree that the final product is very good, and the carafe holds the coffee for our required "one hour" of usability, while maintaining a reasonably high temperature. I guess the moral remains; "You get what you pay for."

I did speak to both Capresso customer service and to Boyd Coffee Co. at the recent International Coffee Convention in Long Beach, CA. I asked both about brewing "under 3 cups" per cycle. (We are Brasilian and drink traditional fine ground coffee from Brazil, and in small demitasse cups....3 US cups is enough for 2-3 people) Both they and Technivorm prefer that their clients brew no less than 3 cups at a time, and preferably 5 or more cups. However, if you must brew smaller quantities, the Capresso does have a "3 cup cycle", which slows the water delivery and extends the steeping of the grounds. Again, it's all about having 200 deg. F water flowing over and steeping the grounds. Most cheaper machines will never get their percolated water to that temperature point, which is required to emulsify and pass the essential flavor oils into your cup. If you're concerned with buying the best machine for home coffee.......than you have two great choices; the Capresso for its ability to meet brewing standards "and also" blend into your designer kitchen, or the very competent Technivorm, sold by Boyd Coffee Co., which is certified by the SCAA, but honestly isn't a beauty to look at........ I opted to get a good brewer "and" satisfy my wife's design concerns.

Nespresso D290 Concept Espresso and Coffeemaker Review

Nespresso D290 Concept Espresso and Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

At one time I owned a Krups espresso/cappuccino machine that I ended up using for only a few months since it was such a pain to set up and clean. Right now, it's sitting in my basement, gathering cobwebs. However, when I received this Nespresso machine as a gift, I now can have cappuccino whenever I want in mere minutes. I turn the machine on, wait for the solid red light to show proper heat/steam (it takes about 30 seconds), pop in a pod, and press the correct cup size for espresso or the larger "lungo." The coffee is forced through the pod and into the cup below in seconds, with a nice brown crema on top. For cappuccino or latte, you need only to then press the steam button (the machine comes with a steamer attachment), stick the tube in a cup of milk, press the lever, and watch the machine suck up the milk and deposit it, hot and foamy, into the cup. Clean up? A breeze. Even if you steam milk, you have only let the steamer suck in water for a few seconds and deposit it into another cup. The empty pods are tossed into an internal receptacle that holds ten or so. There is no tamping for preparation. No scraping the grounds out afterward. No dishwashing. It really is that simple. And the espresso and cappuccino taste just like they do in Italy.

Of course, there are downsides to every machine, and this one is expense. Not only is the machine pricey, but the pods must be purchased through Nespresso at approximately fifty cents per pod. (They come in sleeves of ten.) The Nespresso also must be particularly sensitive to power surges, since mine stopped working in less than a year, as did my sister's, for no apparent reason. But . . . the customer service is awesome. I called, and they sent a loaner machine overnight, with packing and a pre-paid label to send mine in for servicing. When mine was fixed a week later, I simply shipped the loaner machine back using, again, a pre-paid label. I didn't pay a cent. Still, I now leave my machine unplugged when not in use. Others may want to put it on a surge protector.

I was worried that the pre-measured portions of coffee would taste canned, but they have excellent flavor. Once you buy this machine, you will be part of the "Nespresso Club" (wait until you see how exclusive they make it seem -- you'll have to laugh!). You will buy your coffee off the web site or over the phone, and receive it within two days. The "Ristretto" pods make the best full-strength espresso and cappuccino. Even when I make "lungo" coffee, I tend to use the higher strength coffees such as "Arpeggio" since I'm not a fan of the milder types. "Decaffeinato Intenso" makes competent decaf cappuccino as well as lungo, although I wish they had an even stronger decaf. (The regular "Decaffeinato" is milder.)

This machine is a luxury, to be sure, and I doubt I would have splurged on my own. However, this is one gift that I use regularly, with as much appreciation for it as I had the first week. Unlike my Krups machine, this one sits proudly on my counter. Friends who come to dinner eye it longingly, hoping that, once again, I'll offer up espresso or cappuccino with dessert. Of course, I always oblige.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RZCGY0O32ULDX I've owned a Keurig Platinum B70 since January 2007 and have liked it a lot since getting it. K-cups are very convenient and aren't overly expensive when purchased from Amazon. My primary complaint about it is the pump noise and vibration. Keurig updated the design and greatly reduced the noise and vibration in their latest model of the Platinum and in this Breville model, and I wanted to find out just how much of an improvement there was. In my opinion, the improvement is huge. It is much, much quieter. I also liked the addition of the smaller cup size of four ounces, as well as the option to use a built-in water filter. Functionally, the Keurig Platinum and Breville BKC700XL are identical. The Breville adds a couple of nice convenience features (such as a supplied My K-Cup with a storage bin), and the cosmetics are clearly different. After using both, the cosmetics are a wash for me (some pluses for one model, and some pluses for the other), so it comes down to the difference in price. Right now, the Breville costs over $90 more than the Platinum. I don't think it's worth it, but it certainly might be for anyone that prefers the looks of the Breville. Either way, the coffee is good and easy to make!

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I'm a Top 1000 Reviewer here at Amazon, but haven't reviewed anything in years -- until now. The Capresso 464 compelled me.
First things first. This is not my first grind and brew. My old Melitta Mill & Brew, with its faulty plastic latch long since broken had become a drag. For years I had to put a box of chicken stock on top of the grind chamber to keep it shut so it would work! And while it made pretty good coffee, it seemed to waste grounds by spraying them inside the grinder basket. And the daily cleanup ritual had started to make the whole idea of grinding and brewing in one device seem only of marginal value. And yet, the alternatives, including a best-selling Cuisinart model, have notorious bad reviews here at Amazon for being a total chore to clean.

Enter the Capresso CoffeeTeam GS, which solves all of my problems with its ingenious design. No longer do you have to measure the coffee. The CoffeeTeam GS will brew from 2 to 10 cups automatically, grinding just the right amount of beans with no guesswork. Cleanup is a breeze. The filter basket swings out and is easily washed. And because the grinding occurs in a separate chamber from the filter basket, there is no wasted coffee.

The quality of the coffee is also exactly what I want -- hot, and with the full flavor of the bean preserved by the conical burr grinders. If you want stronger or weaker coffee, it's very easy to do. You can also choose finer or coarser grinds depending on the type of coffee you are using (oily coffee should be coarser, light coffee finer).

There are two items that are drawbacks, but I don't mind them so am still giving this five stars. First, the grinder is wake-up-your-wife loud. And it can go for 40 seconds if you are making a full pot. It's not so loud that it hurts your ears, but it is not pleasant, and Capresso would have done well to add some amount of noise insulation. Second, because of the design, a small amount of ground coffee is left in the machine every time. This is an issue in two respects. First, switching from one type of coffee to another is not instantaneous, because invariably there is this overlap. Second, if you leave the machine unused for more than about a week, Capresso recommends cleaning out the coffee chamber and using new coffee. That's because the coffee will get a little more stale with each passing day. But like I said, in my mind these are very minor complaints to a really great product!
