Capresso Impressa J5 Espresso Maker Review

Capresso Impressa J5 Espresso Maker

Previously there had been a two reviews posted here so tailored and smooth they could have only been created by marketing. A third review took umbrage at this tactic and proceeded to vent. None of this had anything to do with this machine and provided no information or incentive to empty out the trust fund and give it a go.

This machine has been in our house a week. I think it's wonderful: it's 7AM fool-proof. How to make a double espresso? A switch, three buttons and two minutes later I am slurping an excellent barista worthy double shot at a time of day I can't be trusted to put my pants on correctly. Four minutes and I have an espresso for the spouse and myself and I get huge bonus points for being so thoughtful.

Best? No daily clean up; it's all internal and needs to be attended to less than a bird feeder.

If you have the not insubstantial cash to drop, I really recommend it. 4 stars, easy.

Capresso C1300 Super Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center Review

Capresso C1300 Super Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I have owned a number of espresso machines including Gaggia pump driven manual units, an Acquaviva commercial superautomatic machine, a Capresso C1000 and now the Capresso C1300. The best espresso was obtained from the manual (not a superauto) Gaggia. However, it was not consistent and a pain to keep clean.

The superautos are extremely convenient as one simply pushes a button or two and is rewarded with a very respectable espresso or cappuccino. One thing that I like about the C1300 is that I can actually get a legitimate 30 second pour with very good crema (the brownish-red foam on the top of the shot that tells you it's been done right). You're going to want to do a large to extra large shot and set the grinder to almost the finest setting. Remember than you can only adjust the grinder when it is actually grinding.

Frothing milk is okay, but not the best. This is common as the superautos typically don't have the horsepower to pump out gobs of hot dry steam necessary for the microfoam that you can obtain with a high-end manual or commercial machine. However, it's good enough I suppose.

One of the reasons that I bought a superauto was because keeping a manual machine clean was a lot of work. With the Capresso, it's quite easy to keep it clean. Simply dump out and wash the grounds tray when the display tells you to and drop a cleaning tablet in every now and then again when prompted by the display.

The Capresso machines are much easier to keep clean than the Saeco/Starbucks units, which require removal of the brew head. Frankly, I'd rather not bother with that. Know thy self, as the old saying goes.

Even though Capresso states that you do not need to use the Claris water filter if you use distilled water, I use the filter anyway. It's a small price to pay to keep your machine in good shape, in my opinion.

If your unit ever breaks once it's out of warranty, Capresso will repair or replace it for a very reasonable price of $125 which includes return postage as of this writing. So if you ever need to fix it, you'll know in advance that repair costs aren't going to break the bank. FWIW, I never had one single problem with my C1000 and so far, the C1300 has been flawless.

I feel that the C1300 is handsome and looks better in person than in the photos. The digital display has an attractive cobalt blue backlighting which is easily readable day or night. Most adjustments are pretty simple to figure out and are made via several dials on the face of the unit (one is behind a hidden door on the left side of the machine).

It's a nice machine and throws a very respectable shot for a relatively moderate price. If it seems like a lot of money to spend on a "coffee maker", you probably won't feel this way after you use it for awhile. I use mine on a daily basis, making either crema coffee (espresso shots with hot water), cappuccino, or espresso. The Capresso C1300 is highly recommended!

Capresso 454 CoffeeTEAM-S Coffee Maker/Burr Grinder Combination Review

Capresso 454 CoffeeTEAM-S Coffee Maker/Burr Grinder Combination
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

We bought one, loved it and after several years bought a new one. Also, bought one for my Mother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law and Aunt. The digital readouts on all four machines have broken within 6-18 months. Capresso says we can send the machines in for repair at a cost of around $100.

Four out of four machines bought at different times tells me that this is a design flaw. Capresso clearly knows about this, but is unwilling to fix the problem. By the way, this only seems to apply to newer machines with the orange/red backlight.

Product Description

The only combination machine with a Conical Burr Grinder! Just pour in the beans, program the time and amount of coffee to be ground¿and CoffeeTEAM-S does the rest! Only CoffeeTEAM lets you program the amount of coffee you want to grind: choose from 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 cups and select mild, regular or strong. You can even program two completely different settings, one for manual operation and one for automatic operation. This way you always enjoy exactly the same coffee taste. The CoffeeTEAM uses solid steel conical burrs. The slow grinding of the burrs imparts minimal heat, preserving more aroma than blade grinding. It also allows for a finer and more uniform grind than combination machines with a blade grinder. Grinding and brewing are separated, keeping moisture away from the grinder. The CoffeeTEAM grinds the programmed amount of beans directly into the filter. Then the filter automatically swings back and the brewing process begins.

Capresso 121.01 Ultima Semi-Automatic Coffee and Espresso/Cappuccino Machine Review

Capresso 121.01 Ultima Semi-Automatic Coffee and Espresso/Cappuccino Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

If the technical aspects of a cappuccino before the crack of dawn have you actually contemplating drip coffee again, check out this machine. You'll have to re-learn how to make a cappuccino, but once you get the hang of it, you can break speed records. For double caps, two scoops of pre-ground espresso go in the coffee spout. Turn the bizarre looking top a quarter turn, push down the lever and turn the pump on. You'll instantly get a perfect espresso with more crema than I was able to get with any kind of consistently from our many previous machines. And it takes less than a minute for the water to heat in the unit for making coffee or arming the frother with steam in this sturdy machine. The best part comes in the clean-up. When you're ready to make the next cup, turn the lever on top a 3/4 turn and it will simultaneously dump your old grounds in a hidden bin and stage itself automatically for the next cup. That's zero coffee grounds on the sink and the ability to crank out a cappuccino every two minutes.

Capresso 464.05 CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder Review

Capresso 464.05 CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I'm a Top 1000 Reviewer here at Amazon, but haven't reviewed anything in years -- until now. The Capresso 464 compelled me.
First things first. This is not my first grind and brew. My old Melitta Mill & Brew, with its faulty plastic latch long since broken had become a drag. For years I had to put a box of chicken stock on top of the grind chamber to keep it shut so it would work! And while it made pretty good coffee, it seemed to waste grounds by spraying them inside the grinder basket. And the daily cleanup ritual had started to make the whole idea of grinding and brewing in one device seem only of marginal value. And yet, the alternatives, including a best-selling Cuisinart model, have notorious bad reviews here at Amazon for being a total chore to clean.

Enter the Capresso CoffeeTeam GS, which solves all of my problems with its ingenious design. No longer do you have to measure the coffee. The CoffeeTeam GS will brew from 2 to 10 cups automatically, grinding just the right amount of beans with no guesswork. Cleanup is a breeze. The filter basket swings out and is easily washed. And because the grinding occurs in a separate chamber from the filter basket, there is no wasted coffee.

The quality of the coffee is also exactly what I want -- hot, and with the full flavor of the bean preserved by the conical burr grinders. If you want stronger or weaker coffee, it's very easy to do. You can also choose finer or coarser grinds depending on the type of coffee you are using (oily coffee should be coarser, light coffee finer).

There are two items that are drawbacks, but I don't mind them so am still giving this five stars. First, the grinder is wake-up-your-wife loud. And it can go for 40 seconds if you are making a full pot. It's not so loud that it hurts your ears, but it is not pleasant, and Capresso would have done well to add some amount of noise insulation. Second, because of the design, a small amount of ground coffee is left in the machine every time. This is an issue in two respects. First, switching from one type of coffee to another is not instantaneous, because invariably there is this overlap. Second, if you leave the machine unused for more than about a week, Capresso recommends cleaning out the coffee chamber and using new coffee. That's because the coffee will get a little more stale with each passing day. But like I said, in my mind these are very minor complaints to a really great product!
