I purchased the red model of the Bugatti Diva about two months ago. After decades of burning out cheap espresso/cappuccino machines, I decided to get a more high-end model. What impressed me after pulling a few shots, was the inner power of this espresso maker--with 15 bar pressure, contrasted to the standard 8 or 9, extraction is quick and forceful, finishing with a beautiful light brown crema. It heats up quickly and is quieter during extraction than many other machines in my experience. Everything is solid and clearly designed for years of use. The milk steam frother has equal power to the extractor and sends plenty of heat and steam into the pitcher. The water tank in the back can be more easily filled with a reusable water bottle--avoiding the method of taking it out and carrying it to the water filter at the sink. Augmenting the previous reviewer I grind my beans (at a level just above Turkish coffee grind) and tamp the grind into the other style portafilter from the pod version he uses. I too have high praise for this very solid implement which has a tight and solid feel when connected to the machine, so the reader now has positive reviews of both portafilter versions. Finally, a word about grace and beauty. Aesthetically driven product design hasn't always been part of our lives in North America. The Bugatti Diva has a stark angularity and seems to slighly thrust forth at you with its wonderful large dial, but this assertiveness actually echoes well with my kitchen, and, I suspect, will do so with most other's kitchens. This will certainly be the only time in my life that I will own a Bugatti original. That being said, I give their Diva espresso and capuccino maker the highest possible praise, adding that I recommend the red version for its dramatic presentation of what is, after all, the most important appliance in any cultured and civilized kitchen.

I bought my La Pavoni in the summer of 1983 after high school. It was heavily used during college (especially finals week) and has made me superb espresso continually. This morning I made a spiced chai using it. I've been amazed with the quality of the unit. I unfortunately bought a model that had a brass and copper film that looked spectacular for about 8 months then began to peel off. It's now not terribly attractive but still pumps out amazing Java.

I estimate I've saved over $25,000 on espresso drinks while maintaining a level of quality beyond what one can get at Starbucks and similar cafes. Being from Seattle, there are now (finally) cafes and baristas locally that are passionate (neurotic) about making excellent espresso and I can't really match them, but to say the least, I'm very happy with my Pavoni.

I've had this model for over four years, and it's a fantastic domestic model. for a home machine, it has a lot of power for steaming, and pulls phenomenal shots with a beautiful creme. nothing is like a professional machine, however this is a great machine for the home.

I have owned several, less expensive espresso machines, and decided I was fed up with the poor result I was getting. I don't need my espresso to be perfect, but I didn't want it to taste awful or feel like I was wasting my precious morning time.

There's not really many machines available in the $150 to 400 category, which is what I wanted. Although $500 is a lot to spend on a machine, I decided that the convenience of having a machine in my home (as opposed to having to run out) was worth the cost. I don't really think I'm saving money over the short term as I only drink espresso a few times a week.

The machine is easy to work with minimal reading of the instructions. I like that you can use espresso pods without having to buy anything extra. If you don't know what an espresso pod is, I'd highly suggesting looking it up if you hate old coffee and like easy to clean.

The bottom line: it's easy to use, makes a great cup, but is pricey. I expect it to last a while, so the cost is ok with me.

My parents bought this about five years ago and I followed suit about a year ago. When she first bought it I thought they were crazy, but when it got there I understood why.

This machine is superb for almost any kind of coffee. Sometimes I like a strong espresso and sometimes I like a cold cafe sheccerato which is a cold coffee and is great. (To make it you simply get a shaker (like a martini shaker) and fill it with ice and a few teaspoons of sugar. Brew the coffee and while it is still very hot throw it in the shaker and shake it strongly for about a minute. The result is an ice cold frothy espresso, great for warm days - forget Starbucks imitation stuff, this is much better).

As other people have said, it takes a little bit of time to get it right. Typically I've found that very thin grains are not the best to work with, something between your typical Illy coffee grain and the larger cheap grains usually works well. It take a bit to get used to, but once you start to get a hold of the whole concept it works superbly well. Frankly, even when you do a poor job the coffee is still good.

In addition, my parents have had this item for about five years and have not had a single problem. It's extremely easy to clean and if you are in a rush it's also a great machine since it loads so quickly and easily.

Also, if you are running out the door you need not wait for the water to completely heat up. You can run it after just a few minutes (of course your coffee won't be as warm, but it doesn't have to heat up completely in order to use it). For those quick out-the-door mornings, this is great. You won't have the best espresso in the world, but you'll still have one that beats just about anything.

I've been through about three [price range] machines in the last few years and they all broke or just didn't taste right. ... You have to be able to taste the difference between good and bad coffee to enjoy this machine. If you don't you probably won't enjoy this machine as much. In other words, if Folgers Instant coffee tastes good to you, move along.

It's also worth getting good coffee for this. ...

In the end, if you are looking for a high-quality product that makes high quality coffee, this is a great choice.

I've been with Nespresso for almost twenty years and the love relationship is still going strong. This new machine has a great look and the milk frother is a REALLY clever invention. It's so quiet you'll wonder if it's actually running. The only negative about this machine is the frother fuzziness with certain types of milk. You are going to have to figure out which local brand of milk works best for you. In my experience, organic vs. non-organic, or whole milk versus skim milk, has nothing to do with it. One whole milk in one brand will work great while in another it will not foam. But when you find the right milk, this machine makes the thickest foam known the mankind. Note that it's a different kind of foam than steamed foam. It's drier than steamed foam and perhaps a tad less creamier, but still wonderful. Also cleaning the frother is a little awkward since you can't submerge it. But easy enough to get the hang of it.
